COOKING A BOOK
Grades K - 3
40 minutes
Wearing a chef's hat and coat, I "cook" a book for students. Into my
large pot go inspiration, research, rough drafts, revisions, pencil
sketches and more as I explain how an author's idea ultimately
becomes a published book. I use my book, These Little Piggies Go to the Beach,
as my primary example, though I also read from some of my other 11
books. Additional visuals include an original book illustration, a real
printing press sheet, and a short video showing the printing process.
I conclude with a Q&A session.
By the end of this interactive program, students will have gained
an appreciation for both the writing process and publishing
process.
