FROM INSPIRATION TO BOOKSTORE SHELF
Grades 3 - 5
40 minutes
In this interactive program, I use examples from many of my 11 published
books to answer big questions:
Where does an author get her ideas?
How do these ideas evolve to become a book on the bookstore shelf?
With the help of PowerPoint slides, original artwork, a printing press sheet,
a brief book production video and other props, I touch on many aspects of
this creative process. Students will learn firsthand how inspiration,
research, and revision come together to form a book. They will also learn
about the roles played by the artist, publishing staff, and more.
I conclude with my favorite part: Q&A.
By the end of this program, students should have gained an understanding
of both the writing process and publishing process.
