  AN EGG-CELLENT PROGRAM
Featuring Where Do Chicks Come From? with Eggs-periments
     Grades 1 - 3
     40 minutes

Where Do Chicks Come From? is a part of the well-respected Lets-Read-and-Find-Out Science series. First I share the book, which explains what happens inside an egg from fertilization through hatching. Then I incorporate visuals, including PowerPoint slides (research, rough drafts, pencil sketches) and an original, framed illustration, to explain the various stages of publishing a nonfiction book. I conclude this part of the program with a "Surprising Facts about Chickens" slide show quiz in an interactive true/false format.

In the second part of the program, I lead students and teachers in conducting several hands-on eggs-periments exploring the properties of eggs, including identifying the inside parts of an egg, testing the strength of the shell, and learning about its unique shape. Scientific method terms, such as hypothesis, prediction, and experiment are introduced.

NOTE: for virtual visits. I perform the eggs-periments myself.

The program concludes with a round of Q&A.

Students will complete this interactive workshop with a greater
understanding of the life cycle of a chicken, as well as an appreciation
for the writing and publishing process.
